Grow Taller – How And Why

There have probably been quite a few times in your life that you have wanted to grow taller, if you are a “vertically challenged” person. Those of us who are below average in height are tired of using the highest shelf in our cabinets for extra storage or being unable to change a light bulb without climbing to the top of a stepladder.

Besides the inconvenience of being short, many short people seem to be considered less attractive, less imposing, and even less competent than their taller peers. With mere height often being the deciding factor in finding a mate or getting a raise or a promotion at work, is it any wonder that short people wish to find the secret to growing taller?

Fortunately, all is not lost–even for people who have left puberty behind. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to grow taller, even well into adulthood. The process is relatively simple and relatively inexpensive: most of what will be required of you is time, as well as the desire to grow taller, of course!

No matter who you are, your height has one primary enemy: gravity. The Earth’s gravitational pull draws all objects with significant mass toward its surface. However, this force not only keeps our feet firmly connected to our planet, but it also exerts a constant pull on the human body from the head on down. As a result, the 23 disks that cushion the spinal vertebrae are more compressed after we have been in a vertical position all day long. For this reason, people are actually up to approximately one-half inch taller in the morning than they are in the evening.

It is impossible to remove the effect of gravity on your spine, not unless you recline through most of the day or work in microgravity. Neither can you increase the amount of fluid that fills the disks between your vertebrae. However, you can do exercises that mimic the effect that either of those things would have on your spine; that is, exercises that increase the flexibility of your spine and increase the width of the spaces between your vertebrae. As with the growth effected when an individual is sleeping, your growth will, at first, be easier and more noticeable if you are younger.  No matter what, you will be able to grow taller–up to three inches or more–if you do these exercises. And the benefits are obvious: not only will you look and feel better, but these exercises may also increase your confidence and help you correct postural problems, as well.

Do not be fooled into believing that you need to take medications or require special equipment to grow taller. While either of these things will help, simple exercises and improved nutrition can help you look better and grow taller. Now you know that it is possible and know what you have to do.
